As founder of The Ben Tobin Companies, Ltd., Ben Tobin’s real estate career had its humble beginnings during the depression in Detroit, Michigan where Mr. Tobin acquired distressed properties. Through careful planning, renovation and hands on management, he was able to turn these properties around and begin a process of real estate development and investment that has continued for more than 70 years and two more generations.

More than a conventional real estate organization, The Ben Tobin Companies, Ltd. is an aggressive "hands on" management and leasing group which owns over one million square feet of shopping centers in four states and enjoys an unusually low vacancy factor in all of their properties. This is what Ben Tobin referred to as, "watching the store."

Today, the philosophy of The Ben Tobin Companies, Ltd. is to acquire run down properties in stable markets that have experienced major tenant move-outs and/or major deferred maintenance and repair. We re-tenant and renovate these properties resulting in considerable added value.

In recent years, we have acquired shopping centers that meet our company’s goals and have successfully brought these properties "back to life" through renovation, expansion, partial demolition, reconstruction, selective re-tenanting, and intensive management. This is a specialized field and requires a different approach than is usually utilized. The Ben Tobin Companies, Ltd. has established a niche in this specialized field.
